We encourage our parents to be actively involved by various means such as face to face discussions, parent evenings, parent feedback sheet and parent questionnaire. We also provide information via daily feedback sheets, the activities on offer, our menus and recipes, our policies and procedures and monthly newsletters.
Parents are encouraged to visit the nursery and share their job, experience, talent, hobby, religion, culture, food etc. with the children. This is to involve the parents but also to share their experiences on how they might prepare food at home or how they celebrate a festival. For example we had a mum share her hobby of decorating cakes, a parent play the cello, a teacher teach the children songs in other languages, a police inspector telling us about her job, a friend of the family tell us about how to recycle etc. All of these experiences provide the children with opportunities and an eagerness to learn. The children continue their imaginary play using these skills for many weeks afterwards and indeed they are skills which will stay with them throughout their education.
We are fortunate to have many parents who love to share experiences with our children and who appreciate, as we do, what a fantastic way this is for children to learn and become aware of their local community.
